Supplies Required For Bris Ceremony
- Consent form signed and dated by both parents
- A well lit room of sufficient size to accommodate the guests
- Sturdy table, at least card table size
- Non slippery table cloth
- Special chair (preferably with arms) to be used as the seat for Elijah
- Chair for the Sandek
- Chairs for elderly or disabled guests (it is traditional to stand during the bris)
- Kippah for the baby
- Kippot for the participants
- Kippot for the guests (optional)
- Tallis for the chair of Elijah
- Tallis for the Sandek (and any other particpants as preferred)
- Kiddush cup
- Kosher sweet wine (red is traditional but sweet white wine may be used)
- Small bowl to put gauze soaked with wine
- Candlesticks, candles and matches
- 2 pillows — standard size
- 2 standard size plain pillowcases
- 2 burp cloths
- Baby wipes and a plastic bag (stuff happens!)
- 2 disposable diapers (sometimes twice!)
- Receiving blanket
- Bottle of formula or pumped breastmilk
- 1 box of 3"x 3" sterile gauze pads
- Vaseline (with or without zinc or aloe)
Other optional items to consider:
- Pictures of relatives who have departed, especially those whom the baby is named after.
- Kosher challah
- Flowers
- Soft background music (discuss with Dr. Oppenheim if desired)
- Camera with empty memory card (film anyone?) and fresh batteries
